how to use built car navigation?

hi,
my car has a built in car navigation system. it has CD or DVD drive attached to it as well. im new to these systems and wonder how to use it.

   This is really going to depend on what type of vehicle you have. The navigation system in a GM for example is much different than those found in a Toyota.

   Most systems require you to “load” the nav data for the area you’re in. Chances are the vehicle is already loaded with nav data for the area you purchased it from. Additional nav data can be acquired via the dealer, many online outlets, and again depending on the system via an online connection.

   The best way to get familiar with your system is going to be to play with it. You’re not going to hurt anything, you can’t destory the nav system by adjusting settings and in general just playing around. If you want to really learn the details reference the manual that came with your vehicle. They are usually written in very easy to understand terminology.

   You should be off the ground and using your nav system in no time. They are invaluable, especially if you take the time to learn how to use all the features. Most allow you to set hotspots (your home, office, etc), tell you about local restaurants, gas stations, etc. Very cool stuff.
