Q&A: Can I safely splice the wires on a GPS car charger?

Question by Tallahassee: Can I safely splice the wires on a GPS car charger?
I have a cheaper end Tom Tom and the 12 volt power cord is broken on the end where it plugs into the car. I have a few other various power cords laying around. Would I be able to cut the end that plugs into the GPS and splice it to one of those or would there be issues?

the problem will be the gps charging voltage i.e 5 volts since it is charging from a car battery the current should ok for charging. so confirm what the input charging voltage is and find one of ur adapters at the same voltage, check the polarity to so you dont cause damage to the gps unit.

why does my car charger drain any device that I try to recharge such as my cell phone?

Question by PT: why does my car charger drain any device that I try to recharge such as my cell phone?
If I try to recharge my cell phone or GPS in my car, it only drains the little battery power that I have left on the device. The battery indicator on the phone shows that it appears to be recharging but it’s not.

Well I do know that when it comes to cell phones, the car charger is meant to be used for emergency circumstances, I.e. when you don’t have access to a normal wall charger, its purpose is to keep phone on.
