Q&A: Infared / Radio – Can one device unlock car door, start ignition, open garage door, disarm alarm, etc?

Question by jbpatter: Infared / Radio – Can one device unlock car door, start ignition, open garage door, disarm alarm, etc?
My buddy’s girlfriend is a real estate agent and has a phone that uses the infared to unlock Lock Boxes that store the keys for homes for sale. Is there a all in one device, equipment I could set up, and/or software I could load onto my BlackBerry to do these other things – Lock/Unlock car door, start ignition, open garage door, arm/disarm home alarm, etc. I want to consolidate remotes and devices. Any suggestions?

Actually, I’d like to get rid of my wallet all together too. Maybe futuristic thinking- use the same device to have encrypted driver’s license, credit cards/debit cards, insurance cards, membership cards; just swipe the device over a reader and select card to use on a touch screen??????

none that I know of you have to pay to have the interlock installed so I would not think a rental car company would allow it

What car GPS device has the longest battery duration?

Question by PeripateticNomad: What car GPS device has the longest battery duration?

Best answer:

Answer by csmutz2001
Get one that has a car charger with it… I think all of them have the same amount of battery life and you get what you pay for… so get a higher priced unit and it should come with all the gadgets needed to make sure you dont get stranded in the middle of no where. Good luck!!

If you need to test a car audio device with a 12 Volt DC power, how many Ampere is needed? eg. 0.500 or 0.800, or something else?

Best answer:

Answer by stone_cold_chiller
depends on the device. a fan will require very very little amperage, while a large amp may require much more.

I’d say start with the wattage of your electronic component and go from there.

Where are some places for a tracking device in a car?

Question by Sean: Where are some places for a tracking device in a car?
I need to know some common and uncommon placements for a tracking device in a small car. Any possible place you can think of will work fine. Thank you

Under the seat, sometimes theres a gap where you can reach above the glove box, inside the engine bay on the firewall, inside the bumper cover, under the carpetting inside the steering column cover, or the best place to hide one is under a coolant tank or something like that.

I dont know any common places but I can hide one pretty damn good.
Assuming you have a small one. I dont know what they look like but anything smaller than a cookie would fit in these places.
