Are there any car GPS units that should be avoided altogether?

Question by xtremelyeuro: Are there any car GPS units that should be avoided altogether?
I’m looking to buy a GPS pretty soon. I’ve been looking at various different models and they all look pretty good. I’m new to the GPS market and I really don’t know much about them. Are there any GPS units that give really bad directions, are unreliable and should be avoided altogether? If so, which brands/models have a poor reputation for performance?

Well, if it has all the same features as one that costs much more and seems to good to be true stay away, I would say Garmin is my overall favorite though. Good luck =)
